Dr. Abdiaziz Farah Dr. Abdiaziz A. Farah is a polymer chemist by training and obtained his Ph.D in Chemistry from York University in Toronto in 2002, under the supervision of Dr. William J. Pietro. Dr Farah took a research position at the National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa for two years where he was involved in the development of novel 2D molecular imprinting for chemical sensor technology. He later returned to the department of chemistry at York as a research associate before joining the Supramolecular Nanoscale Assembly Group (SNAG) at the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT) in Edmonton where he was engaged on technologies for biodetection through Raman and Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS). Dr. Farahs research interests are mainly focused on the synthesis and characterization of organic/inorganic molecules and polymers as well as their nanostructured entities through creation of multilayered, patterned and self-assembled nano-scales for future applications such as data storage, opto-electronics, biosensing, nano and biotechnology, coating, surface and supramolecular chemistry. |

Antje Schaarschmidt Antje received the B.A.Sc. in Laser- and Optotechnologies from the University of Applied Sciences Jena (Germany) in 2006. Currently she is pursuing her Master degree in the same field. During her internship with the research group of Prof. A.Helmy, she aims to learn more about Bragg reflection waveguides and its characterization. That includes second harmonic generation and characterizations with Raman Spectroscopy.
